Free Radio Workshops with Tiaro Community & Youth Radio

Thursday 2nd and Tuesday 7th July saw free radio workshops for the June/July holidays with Tiaro Community & Youth Radio Station Manager Jeff Taylor. Each one day workshops offered five young people aged between 17 and 8 years of age the chance to learn how to prepare radio broadcasting material. During the workshops the participants learnt the basic skills on how to design and produce a Station ID, community announcement and/or a musical segment. The young people were encouraged to bring along their favourite recordings, musical instruments and ideas they would like to feature in their finished presentation. They enjoyed participating in the workshop, with Naydeen Lennox admitting she would like to work in a radio station and Issach Wakefield saying he would like to own one! Food, drink, writing material and blank recording media were supplied to all the young people free of charge.  Tiaro Community & Youth Radio (4TCYR) broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is operated on volunteers alone. It went to air in December 2004 and was established to provide a local form of entertainment and information source, a place of training and to serve as a creative outlet for the local youth and adult community residents of the shire.
